On October 8, 2006, the 100th anniversary of the City of Newport Beach, California, turned out to be an enjoyable and well organized celebration, even though attendance was less than expected. The commemorative slogan “100 Years Between the Piers” (a reference to the Newport and Balboa piers) could be seen everywhere in this coastal city. There were plenty of attractions such as beach activities, kids’ programs, concerts (including Sugar Ray and Dick Dale) and, of course, food vendors. Newport Beach has a colorful history unmatched by most other cities. It is a history full of movie stars, dory fleets, big music bands, fishing, famous restaurants and the best surfers in the world. Although somewhat expensive, Newport Beach is a great place to live. During the last 100 years, it has definitively become one of the proudest cities in the U.S.
